ColorFabb: @SimonBardwell good question. We have only worked with the @Ultimaker with very decent results, if you do the right tuning. BR @ColorFabb
TheWebTester: https://t.co/tFJF3MmTsr love to see this in action #3dprinting @Ultimaker

That looks like a very interesting and promising drive system.
I am impressed with your clever design and speed of the machine! Keep up the good development!
I look forward to seeing this design develop. It had a lot of really good answers to some of the design problems seen in other printers.
My only question so far is about the rigidity of the cantilevered z platform design. it appears like you have accounted for it, but i would love to see more pictures.
The “bicycle cable” style filament feed is particularly clever.
I think it’s wise to keep the motors off the moving parts. I assume that you’re using a belt for the Z axis as well? That reduces the variety of parts. I can’t see in the one picture, but are you using a counterweight on the Z axis? I also agree with your use of lasercut wood parts. It’s relatively cheap plus you get the precision and squareness needed.
I tried building a Ponoko RepRap, and while the Ponoko parts are fine, it’s an inefficient use of the cutting time, and you still have the high friction of the Darwin design. Blah.
Thanks for al the nice comments.

The Z axis is directly driven by a threaded rod on the stepper motor, here are some pictures:

Love the design! I can’t wait to get one when they are available… Keep up the great work.

Wil ook wel meebouwen en produceren voor zo ver ik kan met mijn handicap
Can you post some more pics of your X/Y drive system?
Cannot wait for it! Any updates when it will be available to order??
Its look wonderful. That reduces the variety of parts. I agree with your use of lasercut wood parts. It’s cheap plus and get the precision and squareness needed. thanks for this post.
