Some first prototype movies

Here are some movies from one of the first prototypes called the elserbot. To visualize the print path a ballpoint pen is mounted to the extruder head.

Wow! Thats awesome! When can we expect to see some souce files so we can cut and build our own and maybe help with testing and research?

    Wooh, that’s promising !

I recently began to build a Mendel but I really love the simplicity of this one (it seems to have much less components ?).
Already dreaming about a second 3D printer :)

    Dear Ulti Team,

After having built many of the DIY RP systems, I can honestly say that I really like this design. I tip my hat. We fabbed 1 MakerBot and 3.5 Mendels in 15 weeks last spring.
Our student teams really liked the laser cut part assembly (over the M system). Your drive system is spot on. I am offering our lab’s assistance if there is any way that we could help. Cheers ….M

Have to agree with the wish for some source files, this looks like a very good design. What software are you using for the design? I imagine you have a 3D representation of this in some form, we would all love to see it I’m sure.

    • Martijn Elserman says:

The Software I used to design this is… Adobe Illustrator, thats what I use for my occupation as a designer. At the early stages I made some 3D representations in Rhino, but it works better for me when I make a real life model at some point. So lots of parts were laser cut for learning and testing and evolved into this design.
Currently the focus is on electronics and software, this is done by Jan-Jaap, Siert and Erik. The source files will be available when we have completed the electronics and implemented them in the design.

have you used the netfabb Engine for Rapman for the toolpath? It looks like from speed and movements.

    • Martijn Elserman says:

The software used to create the toolpath is Skeinforge. However I really like netfabb, would it be easy to generate gcode for this machine with it?
