Something unique happened last weekend at Lowlands 2012 as the Perpetual Plastic Project used two Ultimakers to create objects from disposable cups!
The goal of the project has two ends: Enabling people to recycle at the spot and to create awareness among people about the whole concept of recyling in itself and how this concept works. Therefore the installation was made as transparant and user-friendly as possible, enabling people to see their shredded cup transform to raw material and the eventual new product.
Visitors at Lowlands were welcome to operate the installation themselves. Â They could go through the whole working process from washing, drying, shredding and melting of the disposable cups to the final step of extruding the recycled melted material with the Ultimaker.
Check their Facebook for pictures and an even greater impression of the project.
And given the great succes at Lowlands, this won’t be a one time happening, so stay tuned!

This is fantastic, recycling and printing 3D, what could be better?
