New extruder drive upgrade, thanks to community member “Bertho”

It’s time for another upgrade!
Our development team is keeping busy and via this post we want to introduce the new extruder drive mechanism. It is a derivative of the design of  Bertho’s on thingiverse.
It has quite a few benefits over the old one.

The facts on the design:

  1. Retrofit – fits on all Ultimaker printers.
  2. Spring design – compensate for diameter differences in filament.
  3. The snap system – locks the extruder driver in place.
  4. Reliability – this design results in significantly better reliability.
  5. Easy assembly – you only have to replace a small part of the extruder not the whole extruder unit.

The kit is available for 22 euro (excluding shipping) and will be made available on thingiverse! This upgrade will be added to all out going kits from today.

  2. This is Awesome! we are printing parts for our products (Five Button Switch), and having sometimes problem with constant feed with prints over 20 – 30 Hours.

    Thanks a lot!

  3. Awesome that this upgrade was already included in my Ultimaker that shipped 2 weeks ago! Really happy with the design and see a lot of benefit over the old one. Thanks!

  4. Roy Marks says:

Really pleased that this upgrade was included in my recently delivered Ultimaker, thank you.

  5. Hannu says:

    Great!
I’ve been using Berthos design now for a month or so and it’s superior to the old one.

  6. Wout says:

Last week I received and installed this upgrade and it has been a relief ever since. Before my Ultimaker sometimes stopped feeding due to irregularities in the filament diameter. The new feeder eliminated that problem.
