Ulti-evening of 11 Febuary 2013

Last week we held the latest ulti-evening at protospace and it’s cool to see how this event is constantly growing and evolving into something that really adds value to the community. But it can always get better, so if you have any ideas about improving on the concept please don’t hesitate to comment!

First up, Perpetual plastics project (PPP) talked about their goals and vision of  ‘plastic awareness’ and just to be clear, the beer Bart was drinking during his presentation had no correlation with his laid back presentation style, he really is that laid back.

Next up were Brian and Bram (the two B’s) from 3dhubs.com, this is a new kind of marketplace for 3D printers and designers. It’s bold & it’s new, so what do you make of it? Share your ideas!

Next Ulti-evening will be on 25th of March at Protospace.

See you there!

Love what the perpetual plastics project is doing. Been curious as to how the filament extruder works ever since the video of the Lowlands event in August. http://blog.ultimaker.com/2012/08/20/using-waste-material-print-jewelry-lowlands/

As mentioned in the video I was able to find one filament extruder on Kickstarter, not sure if it is the same one the presenter had in mind. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rocknail/filabot-plastic-filament-maker?ref=search

Since I’ve started Ultimaking in August I’ve kept every scrap of PLA just in case I get the chance to recycle it back into filament.

I’ve been milling blue machinable wax for years for use as negative molds for silicone mold designs. And I’ve been fortunate enough to recycle the wax shavings over and over. Hope to eventually do the same with PLA.
